Antelope Bitterbrush

Antelope Bitterbrush

(Purshia tridentata)

  • Size: 2-6' tall & up to 8' wide
  • Seasonal Habits: Deciduous shrub, flowers in early spring and fruits ripen from July to September
  • Toxicity: Non-Toxic

Lassen' antelope bitterbrush is unusual in its large size, uniform growth habit, and morphology of mature plants. Shrubs are upright with a spreading, leafy crown. Antelope Bitterbrush is very important to the animals that call Silvies home, because of its high protein content it helps the elk, deer and antelope survive our cold winters. We often call it the ice cream plant because it is so highly palatable. It is a favorite of our goat caddies and they will often try to convince their handlers to detour in its direction so they can snack on it.
