They have a long slender body and are between 1 and 2 feet long and weigh anywhere from 3 to 9 ounces. Their fur is brown on top and buff on their underside in the summer and white in the winter, but their tail retains its distinctive black tip year round. They live in fields, wooded areas and dense forests.
