Horse

Horse

(Equus caballus)

  • Size: 15 hands (or 5ft tall) // 1100 lbs
  • Diet: Herbivores, Silvies Meadow Grass hay, pasture grasses, clover and wildflowers
  • Seasonal Habits: Ranch horses work year round, but our guest horses work in summer and fall and get to rest in winter and spring
  • Temperament: Prey animal so when they feel threatened they will have a fight or flight response

Most of the horses on the ranch are American Quarter Horses, but there are also some paints and mustangs. They are used by the cowboys to help care for the cattle on the ranch; as well as giving rides to guests in the summer and fall. They were the main form of transportation for the families that originally settled the Silvies Valley.
