  • Size: 150-300 lbs // 5-7' upright
  • Diet: Berries, fruit, grasses and plants, sometimes small mammals, insects and amphibians
  • Seasonal Habits: If there is ample food and the weather is mild in their region, they may not hibernate at all, or may hibernate for shorter periods
  • Temperament: Attacks on humans are rare; they occur on average once per year across North America

More than 600,000 black bears live in North America and about half of them live in the U.S. Black bears like to be alone, but they will forage with others if there is enough for everyone to eat in one area.
