Belted Kingfisher

• Size: 11ā€“14 in long 19ā€“23 in wingspan // 4.0 to 6.3 oz
• Diet: Fish, amphibians, small crustaceans, insects, small mammals and reptiles.
• Seasonal Habits: Permanent resident throughout most of the state
• Temperament: Aggressively defend their nests

Often heard before being seen due to its conspicuous harsh rattling call, both adults have blue-gray backs and breast bands, a ragged-looking blue crest and face, large head, white neck band and stout bill. Their bellies are white, but the female has a rusty-brown belly band in addition to her bluish neck band. Both adults also have a small white spot in front of their red-brown eyes.
