American Badger

(Taxidea taxus)

  • Size: 2-2.5 ft long // 15-20 lbs
  • Diet: Omnivores, about 80% is worms, will also eat rodents, birds, eggs, lizards, insects, seeds and berries
  • Seasonal Habits: Active year round, give birth in mid to late winter
  • Temperament: Very elusive, but aggressive if cornered or threatened

They have a flattened body with short, stout legs and a short tail. They are very well adapted for digging with hind feet that are shaped like little shovels. The large holes found spotted on many of the trails throughout Silvies are caused by Badgers.
